Street Projects in Palm Desert
Bridge Repair Work on Highway 111 at Parkview Drive
This Autumn, the City of Palm Desert will be performing repair work to the bridge on Highway 111 that crosses the Magnesia Falls flood channel at Parkview Drive. Construction will start on Friday, September 26, and last approximately three weeks.
The work will require one, and occasionally two lane closures in the westbound direction. To minimize traffic disruptions, the City is coordinating with CVAG and our internal staff to stagger traffic lights at Fred Waring, Parkview, Desert Crossing, and Town Center, helping to prevent excessive delays.
Please use caution when driving in this area and consider utilizing alternative routes. Dates for the lane closures have not yet been determined, but we will update this page with more information once they are available.
Thank you for your patience as we work to maintain and improve our city’s infrastructure.

CVWD - Cook Street Lane Reductions Due to Pipeline Installation
Starting Tuesday, July 28, construction will take place in the northbound lanes of Cook Street in Palm Desert is part of a regional effort to expand non-potable recycled water service for outdoor irrigation. Crews are currently installing pipeline infrastructure between Green Way and St James Place, with work expected to continue through the end of August.
During construction hours (6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.), northbound and southbound lanes on Cook Street are reduced to one lane in active work zones. Cross streets may be temporarily closed as the project progresses. Drivers are encouraged to plan ahead and use alternate routes when possible.
The project supports long-term water sustainability goals by increasing the valley’s recycled water capacity and helping preserve local groundwater resources. More information is available at https://www.cvwd.org/CivicAlerts.aspx?AID=476
People commuting to Palm Desert High School should use caution when in this area. It's advised that you access the high school via Fred Waring and Phyllis Jackson.
Update 9/16/25 - CVWD Cook Street Project:
Drivers should be aware of upcoming traffic impacts on Cook Street at Hovley Lane East beginning Thursday, September 18. The Coachella Valley Water District (CVWD) will close the northbound left through lane and both left-turn lanes, prohibiting left turns from northbound Cook Street. This closure will remain in place overnight and is expected to last for approximately three days. A future phase of the project will require nighttime intersection work, during which eastbound and westbound traffic will be fully restricted from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m., while daytime traffic will remain open.
University Park Drive On-Street Parking Improvements
Beginning September 29, 2025, University Park Drive will be closed between Baylor Way and College Drive for approximately one month. Construction includes removing part of the median, realigning the roadway, installing lighting, and adding new ADA-compliant parking, sidewalks, curb ramps, and a crosswalk. These improvements will enhance pedestrian safety and create more convenient parking for University Dog Park users.
Residents in the University Park neighborhood will continue to have access to their community by using University Park Drive via College Drive at Cook Street. During construction, you may notice occasional noise and light vibration from equipment.
Roadway Improvements Coming to Eldorado Drive
Starting July 9, the City of Palm Desert will be removing and replacing the pavement on Eldorado Drive between Hovley Lane and Frank Sinatra Drive. In addition, the section of Eldorado Drive between Country Club and Frank Sinatra will be restriped to improve roadway conditions.
While traffic will continue to flow on Eldorado Drive during construction and residents will retain access to their communities, brief periods of noise, dust, vibration, and traffic delays may occur. The City appreciates your patience and understanding as we work to enhance safety and improve your driving experience.
