Project Details

In autumn 2021, residents and community members voted on which sculpture they'd like to see at San Pablo Ave and San Gorgonio Way roundabout. Sunburst by Donald Gialanella (shown below) was selected, and the Palm Desert City Council awarded the contract for fabrication and installation in November 2021. To review the voting process, please see our archived Engage Palm Desert page, Help Us Choose New Public Art. Starting in mid-October 2023, foundation work and sculpture installation took place. The project was completed on November 18, 2023.

Project Information Video 

The Sunburst was selected by residents in 2021. To accommodate this large art piece, two utility retrofits need to take place, which may impact local businesses, residents, and commuters.
